![]() ![]() I suspect that exact wording was generated by Google in response to the simple 550 5.1.1 error code hMail is returning. The error that the other server returned was:ĥ50 5.1.1 : Recipient address rejected: undeliverable address: User unknown Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain by. While this text may not be exactly what hMail might return in such a situation: So to get back to my first question, has anyone ever tested whether or not hMail properly processes incoming messages received through a non-standard SMTP e-mail port addressed to an hMail mailing list? And might that problem have been corrected in a later hMail release (I'm still using version 5.4-B1944) If not, how can we verify this? Again point is that is not an hmail error response so you need to track down example messages in your logs to see what happened to understand WHY before you can find a solution. Also possible hmail is getting that response from trying to send out via relayer & reporting what it was giving. I'm not saying hmail isn't rejecting messages & then they are giving you their response but you'd need to check your logs. That's some other server giving you that response, maybe the relayer you are using. The next issue is the fact that reject error you provided is not hmail. Point being that you have something else going on & tough to fault using port 587 unless you chose something besides SMTP as the service which we've seen people do. And even then SMTP just defines commands & responses & has nothign at all to do with the delivery of the email which happens later. It's the protocol service (SMTP in this case) that deals with what happens with incoming connections. The port setting JUST tells hmail which ports to listen on. ![]() I can't really see the port making a difference. I really like and appreciate hMail, and certainly want to continue using it. Is that particular version known to be unable to process incoming messages to mailing lists arriving on non-standard ports? If so, does a later version correct this? Thinking maybe its code had become corrupted, I just now reinstalled that same version with no improvement. I'm running hMail version 5.4-B1944, which has worked perfectly since it was offered last August. The only change I've made is to add an incoming SMTP port #587 to accommodate the mail proxy forwarding service I'm now forced to use because Comcast has finally blocked all other commonly used e-mail ports (and of course updated my domain MX records accordingly). It is recommended that you disable this option. This may make the server vulnerable to spam. ![]() HMailServer is configured to allow deliveries from external to external accounts in the IP range My computer. I'm also seeing an hMail status message saying: The only thing it's failing on is messages to mailing lists originating from outside itself. Weirdly, hMail Server will accept and process such a mailing list message from my own e-mail client on the the hMail server just fine, and it will also process incoming messages from outside addressed to any one individual with an hMail account. I've created a new test mailing list, and it fails too in the very same way. ![]() It returns a bounce message to the sender saying "550 5.1.1 Recipient address rejected: undeliverable address: User unknown" (which, of course, is not true). Problem: hMail has suddenly quit processing incoming messages to its mailing lists from outside addresses which ARE in its lists and are properly addressed to an hMail mailing list. ![]()
